How to get to Fatima

To make sure your journey goes smoothly, we've provided detailed information on how to get to Fátima from Lisbon and Porto airports.

From Lisbon

Lisbon Airport

Lisbon Humberto Delgado Airport, also known as Lisbon Airport, is Portugal’s main international airport. It is located approximately 120 kilometres south of Fátima.

Lisbon to Fátimaby bus

Getting from Lisbon to Fátima by bus is the simplest and cheapest option. The bus station in Fátima is close to the Sanctuary and the Pastoral Centre and can be reached on foot. The hotels are also within walking distance.

In Lisbon, you can catch the REDE EXPRESSOS buses at the Sete Rios or Oriente bus terminals, as well as the FLIXBUS buses at the Oriente bus terminal. Both terminals and Lisbon airport have a direct connection to the city’s metro.

Tickets cost between 12 and 18 euros and you can buy them online.

Lisbon to Fátimaby train

Getting from Lisbon to Fátima by train is not a good option. The nearest railway station in kilometres to Fátima is Caxarias, about 18 km to the north-east, served by the Intercidades (CP) Lisboa-Porto, Lisboa-Guimarães and Lisboa-Guarda. From this station, when an Intercidades stops, there is a bus service to the centre of Fátima. Alternatively, you can take a taxi (30 min journey) to the Sanctuary and back.

In Lisbon, trains leave from Santa Apolónia and Oriente stations, both served by the metro.

Lisbon to Fátimaby car

The car is also a good option for getting from Lisbon to Fátima, especially if you’re travelling with more people or want to visit other towns along the way.

The main Portuguese motorway (A1), which connects Lisbon to Porto, has an exit that allows you to reach the Sanctuary and the centre in less than 5 minutes. Fátima is also served by another motorway, the IC9, which connects Nazaré to Ponte de Sor and crosses the municipalities of Nazaré, Alcobaça, Batalha, Porto de Mós, Leiria, Torres Novas, Tomar, Abrantes and Ponte de Sor.

The journey by car from Lisbon to Fátima takes around 1h15m depending on traffic.

From Oporto

Oporto Airport

Francisco Sá Carneiro Airport, known as Porto Airport, is a major international airport located around 180 kilometres north of Fátima.

Oporto to Fatimaby bus

Getting from Oporto to Fátima by bus is the simplest and cheapest option. The bus station in Fátima is close to the Sanctuary and the Pastoral Centre and can be reached on foot. The hotels are also within walking distance.

In Porto, you can catch the REDE EXPRESSOS and FLIXBUS buses at the Campanhã intermodal terminal. There are also REDE EXPRESSOS buses from the airport, although there are fewer of them.

Tickets cost between 15 and 22 euros and you can buy them online.

Oporto to Fatimaby train

Getting from Oporto to Fatima by train is not a good option. The nearest railway station in kilometres to Fátima is Caxarias, about 18 km to the north-east, served by the Intercidades (CP) Lisbon-Oporto, Lisbon-Guimarães and Lisbon-Guarda. From this station, when an Intercidades stops, there is a bus service to the centre of Fátima. Alternatively, you can take a taxi (30 min journey) to the Sanctuary and back.
